LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT

WHEY PERMEATE, FROM CRADLE TO GATE

Life Cycle Assessment

Why Cradle‑to‑Gate Matters

A cradle‑to‑gate assessment measures environmental impact from raw material extraction to the factory gate—before delivery to customers. This scope allows full data control up to the production point and captures the most significant emissions in dairy ingredient manufacturing. It supports Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and sustainability reporting.

Trusted Partner: THG Eco & MyCarbon

We engaged THG Eco MyCarbon (Carbon Green Ltd), a respected sustainability consultancy, to complete our Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Their services include carbon calculation, reduction planning, and net-zero strategy development—combined with independent verification. They apply science-driven methodologies for credible, actionable outcomes.

Scope & Methodology

  • Product: Whey Permeate (VersiLac®), from Proliant’s Melrose, MN and St. Johns, MI facilities.

  • Standards: ISO 14067 (product carbon footprint) supported by ISO 14040/14044 LCA frameworks.

  • Impact Metric: Global Warming Potential (GWP), using IPCC GWP100 (kg CO₂e/tonne).

  • Functional Unit: Per 1 tonne of finished powder, including raw material, processing, and packaging stages.

Quality & Verification

  • Scope Coverage: Complete assessment of Scope 1, 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions—now detailed via cradle‑to‑gate boundaries.

  • Independent Verification: MyCarbon validated every stage—data collection, boundaries, calculations, and documentation—ensuring full compliance with ISO and transparency standards.
